In Through the Outdoors

We invite you to a unique retreat in the heart of the Belgian countryside to take inspiration and re-connect you with your intuition and vision as a social entrepreneur, with nature as your greatest ally.

retreat

This retreat is aimed especially at you if you are a leader in a social or environmental enterprise experiencing a threshold. This could be due to feeling the weight of responsibility and relentless pressure, concern about succession planning, detachment from your original passion and vision, or isolation through lack of support and direction from your governing body. It could be a combination of these or similar issues - but you are not alone.

We are targeting passionate activists and leaders of social enterprises - the decision-takers, change-makers and leveragers, the catalysts, to share issues and build solutions together.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?

Building on great success last year in Wales, this summer retreat - “In through the Outdoors” - will combine retreat-time walking and nature processes with time to share your experiences confidentially, to bond with peers and to develop resilience and ideas to tackle these issues. We’ll also be foraging and cooking, sitting out under the stars around fires, and you’ll learn new techniques and processes to enhance your understanding of your passions in life.

We are combining our experience as leaders to lead you into something magical for the weekend of July 12-14 at the beautiful community ground of Bright Futures, in the heart of the wooded Merode area. We will provide a platform for up to 15 leaders keen to get renewed strength, inspiration and growth in self-knowledge and leadership capabilities by meeting other experienced social entrepreneurs in a refreshing and bonding, natural setting. The end result will be as positive for leaders’ organisations as it is for them personally.

The themes will be shaped by participants and may include the open vulnerability of the leader, succession without abdication, building safety and trust; managing transition while keeping love and soul in, and stepping aside for organisational continuity and growth; a movement and culture that remains regardless of the leader.

SOME QUOTES FROM PREVIOUS EDITIONS

organisational continuity and growth; a movement and culture that remains regardless of the leader.

“The weekend gave me a real push along my journey of self discovery - very different doing something for few days at once rather than short regular sessions - I have been at peace since…”

“The whole experience was extremely well planned and relaxed and constantly thought-provoking. The group was big enough to provide a really good mix who all seemed to bond well. Walking and talking is just the best way to meet people and learn their stories.”

“Great weekend away, chance to reflect, relax, meet great people and gain renewed focus"

“Absolutely amazing retreat to connect with nature with fantastic coaches.”

"A great way of establishing a closer connection with - and appreciation of - the natural world around and with your inner self. Good company, thought-provoking and occasionally challenging exercises; a memorable experience all round.”

"Be prepared to open your heart, your mind and expect the unexpected results. Being in nature really helps you connect with who you really are, gives you focus and clarity.”

"Just do it - you won’t regret it!”

RIK, YOUR HOST

Let's make some space here

As host, Rik Verschueren is founder and part of the co-operative, called ‘Bright Futures’; that co-owns a beautifully situated farm, with 7 hectares of land and forest. The partners are starting to manage their land in a sustainable way through separate stewardships, which the whole community can enjoy. Sharing and entrepreneurship are inextricably linked.

Rik has pioneered 40 years using innovative entrepreneurship for social change; by starting and running early local newspapers, community-houses, a biological farm, method-school (Freinet), local currency-groups, and a constellation-theater-company. Since 10 years Rik runs 'Buitenkans' as a process-consultant and outdoor-coach while devoting the rest of his time/life to the 'Bright Futures'.

Rik will be your local host during the retreat and our magician. He will also be your peer as a social-entrepreneur. You can contact in case of any questions about accommodation and necessities.
